Uplift Somebody Today

The last two plus years of my life have been some of the most challenging I’ve ever faced. I’ve spoken about it here and there, and I know, not everyone wants to hear it. For some, it's uncomfortable, repetitive, or maybe just too real. But for others, hearing a piece of my journey has made a difference. Not because misery loves company, but because knowing you’re not alone in the struggle can be the very thing that helps you hang on a little longer.

When someone else says, “Yeah, I’ve been through the fire too, and I’m still standing,” it can light a spark in someone else's darkest moment.

And here's the flip side: I haven’t made it this far alone. There have been people in my corner, uplifting, encouraging, reminding me of who I am when I’ve forgotten. And in the midst of all the chaos, I’ve even been recognized a few times for efforts to help enrich our Metro Lansing community. Those moments? They’ve meant more than most people know.

Let me be clear, this isn’t about ego. It’s about the power of acknowledgment. If you see someone out here trying, really trying, to do good work, to pour into others, to show up when it would be easier to fade out… let them know you see them.

It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. A simple “You’re doing a great job. Keep going.” A shoutout in a meeting. A nomination for an award. A quick vote in a local contest. Whatever the method, just make sure you do it while they’re still here. While they’re still fighting the good fight, earth side.

You never know what that moment of recognition might mean. It might lift someone’s spirit for the day, or it might save their life.

Let’s be intentional. Let’s be kind. And let’s uplift each other, loudly, clearly, and now. ~Melik
